Darkness has descended on the Transylvanian Alps. Four packs of the powerful Grey wolves – in a rare show of cooperation – had joined together here in an effort to help their pack members find true mates. Then they were betrayed by one of their own – an Alpha hell-bent on becoming the most powerful of the Canis lupis. And though the wolf's assassination attempt on the currently-reigning Romanian Alpha failed, his plans to get Decebel, the Romanian Beta, out of the picture were coming together even as his treachery was discovered. The wolf fled, leaving destruction, death, and a missing mate behind him. Unbeknownst to the other packs, the wolf has employed a witch to finish the deadly job and help him gain another tool to increase his power. A curse of devastating proportions will cripple Decebel in a way that may dissolve his fragile bond with Jennifer. Meanwhile, injured and alone, Jen has been fighting for her life. She had come to terms with her fate, accepting that she would not share a life with Decebel, until help came in the most unexpected form... Vasile will have to use all his resources – including Sally, the new gypsy healer of the Romanian pack – to discover a way in which to destroy the witch, lift the curse from Decebel and reunite him with the one woman who makes him whole, and solve a mystery that's been surrounding the Romanian pack for 300 years.
This collection offers a cycle of poems about the poet who, as a child survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto, has had to live with the memories of the Holocaust all her life. The first section describes the evils of suffering and prejudice, of war and destruction, and the loss of loved ones, even the loss of self. "This is a ghetto / where humans live in neglected cages / within a fire that burns sleep out of their eyes." The second section brings glimmers of light in finding ways to move towards a better, fuller life, as the poet realizes "We must always seek / new ways / of reaching one another / though each of us / is a world unto itself." The third section offers a tribute to the artists and poets who have come before and who have left behind their gifts for us. It recognizes the connections and love within the family and the ability to live and love. "I run toward you / carrying the glow of marigolds / lighting your path to my love."
Earth is conquered. The Shongairi have arrived in force, and humanity’s cities lie in radioactive ruins. In mere minutes, over half the human race has died. Now Master Sergeant Stephen Buchevsky, who thought he was being rotated home from his latest tour in Afghanistan, finds himself instead prowling the back country of the Balkans, dodging alien patrols and trying to organize the scattered survivors without getting killed. His chances look bleak. The aliens have definitely underestimated human tenacity - but no amount of heroism can endlessly hold off overwhelming force. Then, emerging from the mountains and forests of Eastern Europe, new allies present themselves to the ragtag human resistance. Predators, creatures of the night, human in form but inhumanly strong. Long Enemies of humanity . . . until now. Because now is the time to defend Earth.
Out of the Dark, the third book of lyric poems from William Guest, traverses time and space - and the poet's long life - to give unique insight into a key purpose of all poetry: to strive for meaning and understanding, and to celebrate the shared experience of what it's like to be alive. Through these poems we find a common humanness that we see in each other, and that we know we share, in face of the challenges that can tear us apart. Written over the course of many years, and with Guest's usual vision and perspective, these poems seek - and find - a rare light.
OUT OF THE DARK captures the colourful interplay and beauty of the night-time colours seen in Alfred Muma's paintings. Since Alfred's first night painting experience on Rock Lake, Algonquin Park as a teen, he has found inspiration and delight in the lights, colours and forms of the world he sees by night....
As significant current events unfold all around us and voices are heard everywhere, saying "look here" and "look there", it is important that we keep our feet firmly grounded on the Word of God. Outside God''s Word there is no stability and it is easy to be alarmed or sidetracked by spectacular forecasts that have very little substance to them. Our primary task as Christians is to know what God''s Word says about the last days and to refuse any information that may be hearsay and which cannot be reconciled with the Scriptures. Anyone could write a book about last things, and many do, but it''s wise to take much of what is written with a pinch of salt. However, when, as in the case of Revelation, the author is God Himself, it is necessary that the facts be well affirmed. And in the opening verses John takes pains to impress upon his readers the accuracy and reliability of what he is about to write. The information did not originate with him. It came from God the Father to God the Son and was then communicated to John by an angel. Although our English Bibles record the title of this book as "The Revelation of John", it is not about John, nor his revelation. It is about Jesus Christ in His role as ruler, conqueror and controller of all things, spiritual and temporal. When Jesus said to His disciples, ''''All power is given unto me in Heaven and on earth" that is precisely what He meant, namely, ALL power, total control over all things. My prayer is that this commentary will help to clarify the immense scope of this book of Revelation to the minds of those who read it.
