One of the elderly residents has been found dead under suspicious circumstances, and Frances, seen arguing with the man earlier that day, is now a person of interest. This manuscript is a contemporary novel that challenges readers to solve a murder mystery. The suspects are a close-knit group of medical center employees. The book features a variety of well-developed characters and an exciting, unexpected conclusion. The main setting for this mystery is a small East Texas town, with a couple of excursions to the Texas Gulf Coast and Aspen, Colorado. Each suspense filled chapter is a short story ending with a cliffhanger. These episodes are interlinked to propel the protagonist, Nelda Simmons, toward a successful resolution. Summary: The mystery begins with the murder of a doctor who owns a health clinic. Nelda discovers the body, and calls the young sheriff, John Moore, who doesn't mind Nelda's aid in solving the mystery. Nelda has considerable experience in solving criminal cases because she assisted her late husband in his work as sheriff. All the workers at the clinic are suspects and have good reasons for wanting him dead. None of them have air tight alibis for the night of the murder. The plot continues with the drowning of the murdered doctor's wife and warning to Nelda in Latin. This Latin phrase is one in a series left by the murderer after or before crucial events. All the messages appear in red lipstick of a particular brand and color. Some of the major events that occur after the two deaths are: the sabotage of Nelda's car and the major car accident that followed; the near drowning of her niece, Sue; predawn visit by the murderer; confrontation in Aspen with the killer on a downhill bicycle ride, and the final outcome. This is a Fireside Mystery with approximately 70,000 words in twenty-six chapters
A fabulous collection of short stories by Peter James, combining ebook bestsellers Short Shockers One and Short Shockers Two, with a never-seen-before collection of new material.
Catch the momentum of how a cracked foundation in the initial development of a life can become constructive and a lesson in how to not only survive, but come out with a testimony of Gods grace and deliverance. Every tear is turned into joy and beauty into ashes. This book is a story whose time has come to openly communicate about abuse and its affects on all involved. Just as decades ago alcohol and drugs were unthinkable topics to discuss, today they are dealt with and healing is found. So it is with the subject of abuse within the family structure. It is now okay to discuss and communicate about its origins and prevention. The "who" is not important within the content of the book. Prevention and healing are essential in order to reach ones full potential and calling in life. Healing is found in understanding, love, prayer, praise, deliverance. A spectacular ending. A must read.
Although a classmate says that she cannot play Peter Pan in the school play because she is black, Grace discovers her true identity, that she can do anything she sets her mind to do.
Join one of America’s beloved storytellers on a walk like no other: one man’s unrelenting search for hope. Reeling from the sudden loss of his wife, his home, and his business, Alan Christoffersen, a once-successful advertising executive, has left everything he knew behind and set off on an extraordinary cross-country journey. Carrying only a backpack, he is walking from Seattle to Key West, the farthest destination on his map. Now almost halfway through his trek, Alan sets out to walk the nearly 1,000 miles between South Dakota and St. Louis, but it’s the people he meets along the way who give the journey its true meaning: a mysterious woman who follows Alan’s walk for close to a hundred miles, the ghost hunter searching graveyards for his wife, and the elderly Polish man who gives Alan a ride and shares a story that Alan will never forget. Full of hard-won wisdom and truth, The Road to Grace is a compelling and inspiring novel about hope, healing, grace, and the meaning of life.
Grace is a beautiful, troubled woman, a mystery viewable only by the reflections of others. Central to the novel is the revelation of her story by others - her alcoholic husband David, her friends, her sister, her lover, and her colleagues at the hospital where she is a physicianâÂÂs assistant. Their reflections disclose how she has drifted from both her first love and her calling as a researcher. As her marriage unravels, GraceâÂÂs life fragments. SheâÂÂs attacked and injured by a drug-addled patient, her father appears to be failing mentally, and her daughter is injured. When she learns that Colter, the man she ran from as an eighteen year old, has become critically ill with cancer, her path clarifies. She leaves her husband and returns to her home town to reconnect with her true loves â Colter and science. Her strength of character is needed as David becomes violent over the divorce and separation from his children. She fights to keep Colter alive and learns from him how to live mindfully.
